At Coverings 2022, we honored 10 outstanding projects that demonstrated spectacular craftsmanship and creativity in the use of tile & stone. This week we’re putting the spotlight on the 2022 CID Award winner for Commercial Tile Installation.

The 7900 Wisconsin Ave project in the heart of Bethesda, MD includes 420,000 square feet of apartments, below grade parking, and 21,630 feet of retail space spread throughout the 18-story building. There is a clear span breezeway, green space with its own bio-retention area, and a rooftop swimming pool and grilling area adjoined by a dog park.

The apartment portion features 22 units on each of levels 2-15 with three units designated as Market Price Driven Units (MPDU), 15 units on level 16, and 10 units on level 17. Associated on-site amenities include a mailroom, coffee station, large kitchen, club room, and gym.

David Allen Company was awarded the $1,259,000 contract to install nearly 90,051 square feet of tile and stone in May 2017 with a scheduled start of December 2018.

Significant delays in structural material procurement, design intent, and price negotiation postponed the mockups until July 2019 and the contracted tile start until summer of 2020.
