Residential Stone Installation Winner
Visually Stunning Villa
Cox Tile
San Antonio, TX
An exercise in precision workmanship was the theme of this stunning new 24,000 square foot residence. Seven baths, all slate floors, kitchen and caterer’s kitchen splashes, fireplaces, wet bar, and utility installations tested the complexity of mixing different materials of varying thicknesses and the creation of unique and intricate geometric patterns.
There was extensive use of Calacatta marble throughout four shower installations in this home. Each shower wall contained wall returns around seats, shampoo niches and jambs. The marble was specifically laid out and cut for the prominent veining patterns to flow seamlessly and capitalize on the beautiful aesthetic of that material. Raw edges were polished to match the factory finish, so as not to disturb the look and beauty of the marble veining.
Intricate multi-dimensional patterns were completely created by the contractor from conceptual drawings by the designer. It was a true test of geometry and attention to detail to create, cut, and fit the pieces to create the unique designs.
Despite the varied thicknesses of handmade tiles, stone, and marble within each design element, each area boasts perfectly smooth surfaces. The project was both challenging yet very satisfying as a test of artisanal precision and dedication to excellence.
