2021 CID Award Winner Spotlight: Villa Florence

At Coverings 2021, we honored nine outstanding projects that demonstrated spectacular craftsmanship and creativity in the use of tile & stone. This week we’re putting the spotlight on the Residential Stone Installation winner.

Residential Stone Installation Winner
Villa Florence
Carnevale & Lohr, Inc.
Los Angeles County, CA

This seven-bedroom eleven-bath home features natural stone prominently throughout. Beginning in the entrance foyer, installed on a traditional drypack mortar bed with 1/16 joints, 5,000 feet of Carrara and Bardiglio marble spreads out across the first floor through the kitchen, dining room, great room, and corridors.

These same marbles continue on all the counter tops in the kitchen area. Eleven unique bathrooms were clad in Piana Carrara, Fior Di Pesco Capria, Grigio Carnico, Arabescato Cervaioli, Nero Marquina, Aliveri Grey, Thassos White, and St. Laurent Noir marbles.

The Master Bathroom surrounds one completely in marble, featuring walls clad in bookmatched Arabescato Cervaiole, and a floor of patterned Arabescato Cervaiole, Aliveri Grey, and Nero Marquina. Even the sink interiors are clad in Arabescato Cervaiole. Three fireplace surrounds also received marbles.

To leave a greener footprint, all the cutoffs left from the slab material were cut into tile sizes. This smaller module was then used in smaller rooms in the house.
