At Coverings 2023, the CID Awards honored outstanding Special Recognition projects demonstrating spectacular craftsmanship and creativity in using tile & stone. This week, we’re recognizing two projects that exemplify beauty in glasswork.
Glass Mosaic
This custom mosaic employs over 170 colors, arranged in a pixelated format to depict original artwork by Cristina Lei Rodriguez. The main challenge during this build was figuring out how to blend a limited number of colors to accentuate different elements and provide richness to the background. While it was difficult, this challenge was overcome, leading to an expansive façade that rendered perfectly flat and seamlessly enhanced the overall beauty of the building.
Stained Glass Mural
This custom backsplash was built to highlight the love of the homeowners, in this case, Mount Adams, Goose Lake, and wildlife. Inspired by a picture of their family cabin, this mural uses special details, like a little red fox or a bubbling creek, to capture the natural look and feel of the forest. The beauty of this mosaic is highlighted further by LED lights that cast light through the stained glass backsplash to light up the kitchen.
